The Micro Loan Program of the Romanian-American Enterprise Fund operates in co-operation with the CAPA Finance IFN (in Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Constanţa, and Iaşi), and with Opportunity Microcredit Romania (OMRO) (in Tg. Mureş and Bistriţa).

The Fund's Micro Loan Program encourages and supports emerging small private business in Romania by providing loans to local entrepreneurs as follows:

• Amount: dollar denominated loans up to USD 50,000;
• Term: up to 60 months;
• Interest: fixed interest rate on the outstanding principal;
• Collateral: flexible collateral requirements;
• Loan proceeds: may be used for financing of fixed assets (e.g. equipment, tools, business related real estate) and working capital.

Eligible companies have to meet a set of criteria:

• At least six months of activity in the same sector;
• Strong managerial skills;
• Ability to return the loan from current operations;
• Good personal references.

MLP is currently available only in the above-mentioned cities and the business must be located within these geographic areas to be eligible for a MLP loan.
